Good Coffee
Every bag feeds a family.
You don’t have to do anything differently. Just drink good coffee.
How It Started
In July 2020, during Melbourne’s second COVID lockdown, Andy Fithall was looking for a way to keep generating donations for Foodbank without just asking people to hand over money. The community had already been incredibly generous — but charity fatigue was real, and Andy knew it.
He needed a product. Something people genuinely wanted, that would create donations as a natural by-product of buying it. Being based in Melbourne, coffee was the obvious answer. Being Andy, it had to be genuinely excellent — or it wasn’t worth doing.
He found his roasting partner in Little Gecko, a local Newport roaster, and Grindhog Day was born. The name’s a nod to the Groundhog Day film — that same morning routine, the alarm, the grind. Except this time, every grind does something good.
The Rule That Started It All
Andy had one non-negotiable from the very beginning: the coffee had to be good enough to sell without the charity element. If people were only buying it out of guilt or generosity, the whole thing would fall apart the moment the novelty wore off.
So he went looking for the best. Fair trade. Sustainably grown. High-grade beans. Premium roast. The kind of coffee that earns its place on your shelf on merit alone.
Turns out, it did. Grindhog Day built a loyal following in the inner west and beyond — and the charity giving has never stopped. To date, Grindhog Day has donated over $14,000 to Foodbank Victoria, translating into more than 71,000 meals for Victorians experiencing food insecurity.

The Charity Behind Every Cup
Foodbank Victoria is Australia’s largest food relief organisation. They don’t hand out cash — they provide groceries and prepared meals to Victorians who need them, through a network of community organisations across the state.
Food insecurity has grown sharply since the 2019 bushfires and the COVID pandemic. The number of Victorians seeking food relief has reached record levels. Foodbank is based in Yarraville — which makes the connection feel very close to home.
Every Grindhog Day purchase creates a donation to Foodbank. It’s not a rounding-up option at checkout. It’s built into the model. You just drink the coffee.
