Below are the three initiatives that make up The Good Machine. They’re connected by a common belief: that business, community, and doing good aren’t separate pursuits. They’re the same pursuit.
Good Coffee — Grindhog Day
Grindhog Day is premium coffee delivered to your door, with a portion of every sale going to Foodbank Victoria. It started in July 2020 during Melbourne’s second COVID lockdown, when Andy went looking for a product that could generate ongoing donations without asking people to just hand over money.
The rule was simple: the coffee had to be genuinely excellent. Fair trade. Sustainably sourced. Premium grade. If it wasn’t good enough to sell on its own merits, it wasn’t worth selling. Turns out, it was more than good enough.
Since 2020, Grindhog Day has donated over $14,000 to Foodbank Victoria, creating more than 71,000 meals for Victorians experiencing food insecurity. And every single bag sold adds to that number.
What Makes Grindhog Day Different
It’s not a charity project that sells coffee on the side. It’s a premium coffee business that happens to do enormous good. That distinction matters — because it means the product stands on its own, and the giving never stops.
There’s also a genuinely personal service behind it. Subscribers can text Andy when they’re running low. Orders are packed and dispatched fast. And the coffee? It’s the kind you actually look forward to.
Good Networking — Ground Level
Ground Level is a club for small business owners and not-for-profit leaders who are done with the kind of networking that feels like a performance. No pitch pressure, no business card scramble, no hierarchy. Just real conversations between people who are genuinely trying to build something.
Andy started Ground Level because he’d experienced too many networking events that left him feeling more isolated than connected. He wanted to build something that actually worked — for people like him, who find traditional business environments exhausting, and for the broader community of purpose-led small businesses that make Melbourne’s inner west what it is.
