Frequently Asked Questions
The Good Machine
The Good Machine is a social enterprise based in Melbourne’s Inner West. It’s a collection of initiatives — Grindhog Day Coffee, Ground Level networking club, and two podcasts — all built around one idea: that doing good and doing business aren’t mutually exclusive. It grew out of In Other Good News, a community broadcast Andy Fithall started with his kids during the 2020 pandemic lockdowns.
Andy Fithall — West Footscray local, audio engineer, broadcaster, and community builder. He’s neurodivergent, endlessly curious, and has a habit of starting things that end up helping people. He still answers his own messages.
Every initiative has giving baked in, not bolted on. Grindhog Day donates to Foodbank with every coffee sale. Ground Level gives small businesses and not-for-profits a place to connect and grow. The podcasts amplify the stories of people doing good work in the community. It all adds up.
No — it’s a social enterprise. That means it operates like a business, but with community impact at its core. Rather than relying on donations, it creates products and services people genuinely want, and channels the proceeds toward good causes. Think of it as doing well by doing good.
So many ways. Buy the coffee. Join Ground Level. Listen to the podcasts and share them. Come along to an event. Reach out to Andy directly — he loves a good conversation and is always open to collaboration, partnerships, and new ideas.
Grindhog Day Coffee
Grindhog Day is a premium coffee brand that delivers straight to your door, with a portion of every sale going to Foodbank Victoria. The name’s a nod to the Groundhog Day film — that feeling of reliving the same morning routine. The difference here is it’s a routine worth repeating.
Grindhog Day sources fair trade, sustainably grown beans that are roasted to a premium standard. The founding principle was simple: if the coffee isn’t genuinely great, why would anyone buy it? No compromises on quality.
A portion of every Grindhog Day sale is donated to Foodbank Victoria, one of Australia’s largest food relief organisations. They turn that donation into grocery packages and meals for Victorians doing it tough. To date, Grindhog Day customers have helped create over 71,000 meals. Every bag counts.
Yes — and we highly recommend them if you want to avoid a Code Brown situation (that’s when you open the pantry and find no coffee). Subscriptions let you set your frequency, grind type, and bag size so you never run out. Free and fast delivery to Inner West Melbourne.
Grindhog Day comes in 250g, 500g, 750g tin exchange, and 1kg bags. There are also accessories, equipment, and merchandise available through the Grindhog Day store.
